Guitar Instruction

Picture
Bijan offers his students guitar instruction in the fields of jazz, blues, and rock. He helps his students build a solid foundation of music theory, the most common deficiency amongst guitar players, derived from his versatility on multiple instruments in multiple genres, as each student will understand the individual value behind each note. Bijan aids in expanding their harmonic language: teaching the basics from triads and 7ths, to extended chords and altered harmony in order to comp with jazzy voicings to the legendary standards. His students will learn to incorporate ornamentation and chromaticism when applying scales, modes, pentatonics, and arpeggios to spontaneously create imaginative jazz guitar solos. Bijan will demonstrate how to play melodically in rock guitar solos, upon analyzing the greats in Carlos Santana and Eddie Van Halen. His students will also learn to utilize the stylistic elements of the iconic blues guitarists, such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King, to improve phrasing, play in the pocket, and improvise with soulful call and response solos in common blues progressions. He also teaches his students modern technique, including various picking styles, tapping, sweeping, as utilized in rock, blues, and jazz guitar. Bijan, equipped with perfect pitch, will assist his students in developing their ear training and transcribing.
