At fast tempos, it's all about economy of motion—using permutations with your 4-5 note shapes let you move less and say more! Chick Corea in particular and McCoy Tyner were masters of this.
When a chord lasts for 1 bar, 5432-4124 is our go-to permutation. When a chord lasts for 2 bars, note how we shift permutations to keep the flow (we start with the common 1 bar permutation 5432-4124, but then shift to 3432-1234 ). SIDENOTE: where are these 4-5 note shapes coming from? They are mostly superimposing pentatonic scales (i.e. Bbmi7 over G7ALT) to create upper-extended sounds: More details in the lesson PDF!
