You may be familiar with the classic tension chord: the V7 (i.e. going to Fmi = C7-Fmi). BUT there is another option: the iminb6 (i.e. going to Fmi = Fmib6-Fmi).
Emotionally, the iminb6 creates a more haunting and wistful feeling in my opinion (whereas the V7 esp V7ALT feels more "crunchy"); yet it's a very subtle motion. The parent minb6 is often underutilized in Jazz (more common in Romantic & Impressionist styles, and film music), but it can be highly effective in the right context.
