As the RH melody ascends, the LH descends to create contrary motion. BUT, notice how the LH doesn't enter until the 2nd note of the melody.
This delayed LH entrance during contrary motion is a texture Fred Hersch uses often, which creates a beautiful feeling of expansion to the melodic line. This excerpt is from a trio performance of "Ask Me Now" from a special trio residency at Cliff Bell's ft. John Webber (bass) & Keith Hall (drums) To watch the FULL cut, click HERE |
