Check out how we make a metric modulation from 4/4 to 3/4 (actually, 6/4) and back. Quarter note triplets in the old time become the "new" quarter note pulse. To switch back, the dotted quarter notes in 3/4 become the quarter note beat back in 4/4 time.
This metric modulation is not something I had planned on doing going into this take, but the beauty of solo piano is that you can spontaneously go in different directions, like changing meters, tempos or even the expanding the form. Stay tuned for Part 2 & 3! This excerpt is from my solo piano recording of "Desafinado" from Cactus Sessions. To watch the FULL cut, click HERE |
