In this excerpt, we're creating rhythmic tension by superimposing 3 over 4 in a 4/4 setting. The right hand uses a 3-beat motif, while the left hand repeats dotted quarter notes - creating a 3 over 4 feel that stretches across the barline. One of the biggest challenges with applying cross rhythms is not getting lost. You have to always know where you are in the time and where 1 is, so you can resolve it at any moment.
