Check out this 16th Note 2-5-1 Improv Line over "Here's That Rainy Day":
1) Note how we start our line before the Cmi7 (iimi7). This connects the seams so that our improvisation feels fluid, rather than always 4-bar phrases which sound rigid. 2) 32nd Note Turns are a nice texture that breaks up the 16th note flow. **this happens over the Cmi7 and Bbma7 3) Rhythmic Release - releasing rhythmic rates is a great technique to end a line so that your phrase does not end abruptly. Here we release from 16th notes to eighth note triplets. This excerpt is from TrioGram II CA Tour at Campus JAX in Orange County ft Joe LaBarbera (the last drummer for Bill Evans’ Trio)! |
