The melody is the main voice that you want to bring out often times. But this is much easier said than done. I am going to show you a SECRET Practice Exercise for voicing control which was shown to me by my mentor and former classical piano teacher, Robert Estrin, known as the VARYING ARTICULATIONS EXERCISE.
This gets you to work on controlling individual voices. The idea here is that if you can control the articulations of individual voices, then you will also be able to control the dynamics of individual voices. To try this, play the voices you want to bring out legato (for ex: bass + melody) and play the other voices staccato. |
