This is a moment of SPONTANEOUS ARRANGING: using the melody to create an ensemble figure for the first 8 bars and then back to improv for the remainder of the section. This happens twice - once over the First A and then we apply the same concept to the last A. Another cool thing about the melody figure is that we are superimposing 3 over 4. This serves as a nice contrast to the rest of the improv (which is straight 4/4), which also breaks up the sections rhythmically. |
