When it comes to basslines on the piano, you want to keep it simple so you can focus on your RH.
1) Chromatic Approaches from Above 2) Occasional Walk Up Lines 3) 1-5-8's 1-5-8's are effective because it allows you to put your LH on autopilot and to focus on playing with good time/swinging. This is more important than playing "hipper notes" in your LH piano basslines. The other secret to a swinging Basslines is THE HUMP (aka all the 1/8th notes in between the beat). How do we approach the hump note? a) 5th of the next bass note b) piggybacking off the Root of the chord 3) occasionally a ½ step from above |
