From "Esau" as played by Bijan Taghavi on TrioGram.
Jazz Improv Tip: FOLLOW THROUGH Your Ideas. Don’t just give up on an idea, see how far you can take it before moving on to the next idea. Check out how these 2 melodic motifs are developed over the piano solo to “Esau” (by Will Lyle). The 1st melodic motif is an ascending downward triad shape and is developed 2 more times before moving on to the next idea. The 2nd melodic motif is a descending downward triad shape and is developed several times, even into the start of the next chorus. By blurring the line of the start of the chorus this can create the feeling of a 96 bar solo rather than “3 choruses of 32 bars”. |
