In this lesson, we discuss the importance of delineating the top note of a voicing to bring out the melody.
When you're playing a chord, not all notes are created equal. Not all notes are supposed to have the same dynamic level. We use the classic jazz ballad, "Everything Happens to Me" as an example to demonstrate this concept. How do we bring out the top note? By "reaching" for the top note, as if you're trying to grab something with your pinky. |
