Ahmad Jamal was a master of many things, including writing tunes with these little vamps that are lots of fun to play over.
This is one of his tunes that we play with TrioGram, an obscure tune entitled "Crossfire", which revolves around this 9-bar vamp that includes a time signature change from 6/4 to 4/4.

The 1st time you will hear the "melody" of the vamp section, the 2nd time you will hear the piano soloing over the vamp section. Note during this how the rhythm section (bass & drums) remain constant.
