In solo piano, since there is no drums and bass spelling out every beat for the listener, it's very important to bring out as many rhythmic subdivisions as possible.
We can accomplish this by: 1) adding passing chords for motion, 2) breaking up our voicings, and 3) inner voice movements. Check out how this is applied to Autumn Leaves as we transform it from lead sheet form into solo piano.
