How to Create LH Counterpoint on Body and Soul

In this lesson, we are going to examine a technique to create the illusion of LH counterpoint using a tool you already have: LH chord shapes - whether that is LH rootless voicings or LH solo piano shells (i.e. 1+7+10).

We are going to take these LH rootless voicing shapes or LH solo piano shell shapes and simply break up the voices in randomized ways. This is a technique that Bill Evans used often in his solo piano playing as well, and creates the effect of LH motion.

How to approach this?
Step 1: Pick a chord shape and break up the individual voices in a randomized way
Step 2: If necessary, you can fill in additional notes from the underlying chord scale
i..e. Eb7 = Eb Mixo (#4) = Eb F G A Bb C Db
