When playing a ballad, you can keep an underlying triplet pulse OR you can keep an underlying 16th note pulse. ALTERNATING between these pulses can create great RHYTHMIC INTEREST & VARIETY in your ballad playing!
You cannot communicate this fast enough when playing with a rhythmic section but one of the great JOYS and FUN of solo piano is the ability to spontaneously change rhythmic feels as you please! Check it out how we alternate between these 2 ballad feels while playing the melody of the Bridge to "Ask Me Now". |
