Happy Birthday to Kenny Barron, one of my favorite jazz pianists of all time! Here is a transcription analysis of his melodic embellishment/solo over Autumn Leaves. There are so many gems to take away just from this 1-chorus: LH Voicings and Rhythmic Approaches, Interactive Comping, Short vs sustained LH comping, harmonic anticipations, Blues licks, Diminished Scale runs, Bebop lines, Line Adaptation, min(maj7) movements, usage of quarter note triplets, secondary dominants, tritone substitution... the list goes on! Not to mention his beautiful touch and sound that he gets out of the instrument.
